Brokenshire College

When I first decided to enroll at Brokenshire, I really didn't know what to expect. Here I was, 28 years old and returning to college. I thought that I might be out of place being older than most of the students. But, much to my surprise, I found myself accepted by many student and made some very close friends.I found that even though there was a bit of age difference, we did have many things in common.

Equal Rights, Im' burning my bra

After reading about the Magna Carta Act for Women, I can't help but hope for a fast signing by President Arroyo. It is a long time coming for a bill that assures equal rights for women. All people are created equal. There are no second class citizens. We are one people working together and no one is entitled to less rights than another. Equality is not gendered based. Regardless of politics, President Arroyo should know how difficult it can be for a woman due to her gender. We do not live in a totalitarian society. It is time for us to catch up with the modern world. Women need their rights protected equally to a man. The anti-VAWC must be able to be enforced. Women should not have to live in fear. Let's join the 21st century!

Learning to love yourself is the greatest love of all

Learning to love yourself ,It is the greatest love of all", this is part of the lyrics in one of the popular song of Whitney Houston;"The Greatest Love of All". I used to sing this song when I was young and it was my favorite song. This is a very simple sentence, but if you are going to reflect, there is deeper meaning behind it. I gave value to this part of the song when my English teacher quoted this during our class. It really struck me and I began to reflect. It made me realized that how important it is to take care of one self. We Filipinos, we are used to being a martyr when it comes to family, OFW's work too much just for the sake of the family, family, family. Family always comes first, even though they forget to treat themselves. They punish themselves from working in order to get more money just to send to family. They even get sick from working with no time to unwind and get rid of the stresses in life. Sometimes we think too much for others and forget our own selves, thinking that we must care for them. You feel that you have to do everything just for them, and be willing to sacrifice. It is a great quality, but it's unfair to yourself. The result is, your family will depend on you for the rest of their lives. It's an act of tolerating their laziness. For me, before loving your family, friends, relatives, you must love yourself first. It is not narcissism but we must do it. In other words, you punished yourself from working too hard because you are doing it for your family. Then u get sick because you don't have the time to relax. The body is not like a machine, it needs to rest also. Think about that if you got sick and your family is always depending on you? How could they stand on their own feet? Let me explain what i'm trying to convey: If you don"t love yourself, you don't love your family as well. I just want to correct the mentality, that if you love your family so much that you have to work incessantly, you often forget or deprive yourself of the time to enjoy, relax and unwind.

It takes two to tango

Act comes first then regret...
We often like to place blame on someone after doing bad things or if something happens to us( si kuan man god ui,siya man god to nag-agni sa ako para mabuhat nako to nga butang, nagmahay jud ko,nagpadala man god ko sa iya) these are the lines that we utter after we have done something. For lovers, after the pleasure, here comes the girl crying, regreting, and wanting to commit suicide. But, it`s over, the mistake has been made. Each one of us have our own choice in life, whether we decide to do what is right or is wrong. Always bear in mind that before doing anything, you have to think of the consequences first. If someone asks you to do something bad and you indulge with them, then you dont have the right to blame him or her..We have a sayings that " It takes two to tango" Before indulging, think it through a million times.

morgue experience

It was Sunday evening, we went to Angel Funeral Homes to visit our friend. She was still in the morgue. Without hesitation, we entered inside the morgue. Whew! What a lot of dead bodies inside. One of my friends was very scared and she told us that she was about to faint, seeing those coffins . Shouting!!!hoy! salig kay mga nursing student mo..wag nyo akong iwan dito!ayaw kong pumasok mauunawaan din ako ng friend natin...huhuhu. We didnt mind her and we just continued to go in. It's so sad, I'm about to cry looking at my friend's corpse....huhuhu. We are going to miss you.
